CHARLES FREEMAN RITES HELD HERE

Former Resident Fatally Injured in Fall at Sioux City

Charles C. Freeman, a native and long-time resident of Madison county, died July 3 at St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City. Mr. Freeman had made his home in Sioux City since his return from the World War. He was 50 years of age.

The deceased was the son of George R. and Christiana Freeman and was born in Winterset on July 21, 1886. He was reared in and near Winterset and in youth became a member of the Church of Christ of this community.

On December 25, 1910 he was married to Muriel Shoemaker. They were the parents of five children, one of whom died in infancy.

In 1917, after the United States entered the World War, he enlisted in the army and served in France until the armistice. Returning to Iowa, he settled in Sioux City where he contracted papering and painting.

Mr. Freeman's death was the result of a fall while working on the newly constructed fire station at Sioux City on June 29.

In Sioux City, he was an active member of the American Legion and of the Sioux City Commercial club.

Near surviving relatives are his four children, Christina, George, Virginia and Ethel, all of Winterset, a sister, Mrs. Fred Forbes of Norwalk and a brother, W. E. Freeman of Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday from the Union Chapel in charge of the Rev. E. L. Patterson, pastor of the St. Charles Methodist church and under the direction of Harley Reed of St. Charles. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
