HENRY ALCOCK DIES IN AUTO ACCIDENT

Car Plunges From Bridge Into Creek Near Winterset

Henry Alcock, well-known resident of the Hanley community, was instantly killed Monday morning when the car he was driving skidded through the guard rail of a snow-covered bridge near Winterset. He was about 65 years of age.

As Alcock was driving alone at the time it was not known exactly how the accident occurred. He was driving on a by-road about two and one-half miles southwest of Winterset, when he approached a wooden bridge that spans a tributary of Middle River there. In some manner he lost control of the car on the icy bridge, plunged through the rail and dropped 15 feet to the creek bed below. The car turned over in the air and fell on top of the driver.

The body was found by Lester Smith and a companion who were passing that way shortly before noon. They immediatley notified Winterset authorities.

Alcock was a long-time resident of the Hanley community and for 21 years had been a section foreman on the railroad there. He is survived by his widow, a brother, A. C. Alcock of St. Charles and a daughter, who lives in the state of Washington.
