Had Been Resident of Scott Township Since Settling Here in 1876
Alonzo F. Powell, a resident of Scott township since 1876, died at his home southeast of Winterset Tuesday. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Powell was the son of Charles and Matilda Powell and was born in Michigan on December 20, 1869. When he was seven years old, he came with his parents to Madison county. They settled in Scott township and that community has since been his home.
In early life Mr. Powell joined the United Brethren church and was long an active member particularly in Sunday school work.
On October 30, 1896, he was married to Margaret Ann Kranz. They were the parents of five children. One of them, Bertsel died in 1928. Surviving are the wife and four children; Mrs. Myrtle Huisman of Des Moines, Mrs. Hazel Neal of Paton, Harlan Powell of Winterset and Flora Powell at home. He also leaves three brothers, Theodore Powell of Creston, Frank Powell of Des Moines and Albert Powell of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the Early Chapel church in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Early Chapel cemetery.
