DEATH OF MRS. SAMUEL SHOULTS

Van Meter Special July 27th-Mrs. Sam H. Shoults passed away early Tuesday morning, July 20th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alva Driscoll. Mrs. Shoults was eight-four years old and had been in failing health for some time. For the last three months, she was under the care of a nurse.

Martha Elizabeth Fugate, daughter of Henderson and Elizabeth Fugate was born March 28, 1853 in Tippecanoe county, Indiana. She was the youngest and last surviving member of a family of seven children.

She was married March 5, 1876 to Samuel H. Shoults who preceded her in death March 7, 1932. To this union were born four children, one son and three daughters, one daughter having died in infancy.

As a bride she came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Jefferson township where she spent fifty-four years of her life, moving into Van Meter in 1930.

Those left to mourn her death are a son, Harry Shoults, two daughters, Mrs. Alva Driscoll and Mrs. Oscar Marquardt, all of Van Meter; four grandchildren, one granddaughter, Mrs. Hazel Brown having preceded her in death; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the United Brethren church in Van Meter Thursday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. E. A. Elliott, assisted by the Rev. L. B. Foster. Interment was at the Union Chapel cemetery.
