Mrs. Eliza Stewart Dies

Mrs. Eliza Stewart, aged Macksburg resident died at her home Monday afternoon, May 18th, after a short illness. She was 88 years of age and had been residing in Macksburg for a number of years.

She is survived by six children, Lee Stewart, Mrs. Rena Beamer, Mrs. Nellie Waltman, Mrs. R. C. Graham and Mrs. John Beck of this county, and Mrs. Will Cameron of Kansas City, Missouri.

The Rev. M. D. Summerbell conducted her funeral services at the home, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.

MORTUARY – MARTHA ELIZA LEE

Martha Eliza Lee was born near Rochester, New York, on April 10, 1848, and departed this life on May 18, 1936, aged 88 years, 1 month and 8 days. She moved with her parents to Madison county in 1855. On March 17, 1869, she was married to James Johnson and to this union were born two daughters, Rena Beamer and Nellie Waltman, both of Macksburg. Her husband passed away in the fall of 1873.

On October 7, 1875, she was married to Adams P. Stewart, moving to the farm she occupied until her death. To this union were born five children, Mrs. R. C. Graham, of Macksburg, Mrs. John Beck of Pitzer, Emma, deceased, Lee of Macksburg, and Mrs. W. R. Cameron of Kansas City, Missouri.

For a number of years she has been a member of the M. E. church of Macksburg..

Her husband preceded her in death on December 12, 1925. She is survived by six children, fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother, Elias Lee of Rogers, Arkansas; Miss Ann Miller, friend and companion for the last seven years, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 20 at her home in charge of Rev. M. D. Summerbell, pastor of the M. E. church in Macksburg. Burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.

Services for Mrs. Stewart

Mrs. Martha Louise Stewart, 88, a resident of Grand River township 80 years, died at the home of her son, Lee Stewart, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Stewart, whose maiden name was Dunton, was born in New York.

Services were held at the home in Macksburg Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was in the Moon cemetery.

Coordinator's note: Although her Iowa Death Certificate says her father was "William Dunton", his surname had been omitted. He was "William Dunton Lee".
