J. H. VANDERHOOF DIED WEDNESDAY

Retired Farmer Had Lived In Winterset Since 1948

James H. Vanderhoof, a resident of Winterset since 1948, died last Wednesday, May 14, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 78 years of age.

Mr. Vanderhoof was a native of New York state, where he was born at Floyd on Jan. 6, 1880. He was a son of George and Alice Brown Vanderhoof. He was married at Poland, N. Y. on Sept. 6, 1896, to Anna E. Evans. They lived in New York until 1911, when they moved to a farm near Red Oak, in Iowa. In 1923 they moved to a farm near Corning, and in 1948 retired and came to Winterset.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. and Mrs. Vanderhoof were parents of six children, two sons preceding the father in death. Surviving are his wife; two sons, George D. Vanderhoof of Marionville, Mo., and Francis N. Vanderhoof of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Reba Shaler and Mrs. Oma Carmichael, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Jenny Yaggi of Amsterdam, N. Y. and Mrs. Sarah Yager of Rome, N. Y.; a brother, Newton Vanderhoof of Verona, N. Y.; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery at Red Oak.
