Funeral services were held Saturday from the old Peru Methodist church for Martin B. Travis, long-time resident of Peru, whose death occurred last Wednesday, April 23, at Memorial hospital in Winterset.
Mr. Travis was 78 years of age at his death. He was born at Old Peru on Feb. 16, 1880, a son of S. N. and Mary E. Travis. Most of his life was spent in the Peru community.
He was married at Peru on Feb. 12, 1902, to Nellie F. Hoover. They were parents of nine children, four of whom preceded the father in death.
In early life he operated a meat market and grocery in Peru, and later engaged in farming. He also worked at meat cutting in later years, until his retirement 10 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Maude Simmons of Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Wilma Carter of Winterset; three sons, Joe Travis of Golden, Colo., the Rev. Earl Travis of Shellsburg, and Wendell Travis of Cedar Rapids; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The Rev. Richard Mohr of Winterset conducted his funeral services Saturday at Peru. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
