Resident There 32 Years Died Last Thursday; Was 57 Years of Age
Willard Welch, a long-time resident of Earlham died Thursday, Sept. 18, at his home there. He was 57 years of age.
Mr. Welch was a native of Dexter, where he was born on April 28, 1901, a son of Martin and Nelle Burns Welch. As a small boy he moved with his parents to Buxton, where he spent his early life. Later he lived at Pershing.
He was married June 12, 1925, to Ethel Couch. For a time he worked at the May grocery in Knoxville, after which he and his wife moved to Earlham, were they spent the remainder of their lives, with the exception of 12 years at Winterset.
For the last 32 years, he had been employed at the Hawkeye-Marquette Cement plant at Earlham.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene Conrad of Earlham and Sharleen Welch of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and a brother, John Welch of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Earlham Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. R. Edwards. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Willard Welch, son of Martin and Nelle Burns Welch was born at Dexter, Iowa April 28, 1901, and passed away suddenly at his home in Earlham, Thursday, September 18, 1958 at the age of 57 years, four months and 21 days.
When a small boy he moved with his parents to Buxton, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.
Later he moved to Pershing, Iowa. On June 12, 1925 he was united in marriage with Ethel Couch, who was a teacher in the local school. Soon he and his bride came to Earlham where they have since lived with the exception of twelve years spent in Winterset. To them two daughters were born, Norma (Mrs. Eugene Conrad) of Earlham, and Sharleen of Des Moines.
For the past thirty-two years he had been employed at the Hawkeye-Marquette Cement Quarry.
Willard was devoted to his family; a good neighbor, and liked and respected by all who knew him. For many years he shared his home with his parents, who only recently, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel, his children, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Conrad of Earlham; and Sharleen of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Karen, Susan, and Vicki Conrad; his brother, John and wife, Lois, and their three children, Larry, Paul, and Nancy of Winterset; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mr. P. W. Welch of Los Angeles, California; several cousins; other relatives, and many friends.
