MRS. ROSE SHAW DIES IN ILLINOIS

Wife of Formerly Prominent Winterset Merchant Was 86 Years of Age

Mrs. Rose M. Shaw, widow of the late H. N. Shaw, who was a prominent Winterset merchant for many years, died Monday, Aug. 11, at a hospital in Burnham City, Illinois. She was 86 years of age and had been a patient at the hospital five weeks.

Her death shortly followed that of her sister, Effie Turner, who died Aug. 4 at Urbana, Ill.

Mrs. Shaw was the former Rose Turner, daughter of Alfred and Isabella Spurgin Turner. She was born at Winterset Sept. 19, 1871, and most of her life was spent in this community.

She was married June 21, 1924, to H. N. Shaw of Winterset. They continued in the dry goods business here until 1929, when they moved to Illinois, where they lived at Murphysbore and Assumption. Since 1932 she had lived at Urbana. Her husband preceded her in death many years ago.

Surviving are a stepson, James J. Shaw of Corpus Christi, Tex.; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Griesel of Evergreen, Colo.

Funeral services were held last Thursday at Urbana, conducted by the Rev. Ronald T. Allin, pastor of the First Presbyterian church there. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery in that city.
