Served as Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church Quarter of Century
The Rev. Carl F. Lilie, who, for a quarter century, served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Jefferson township, died Thursday, July 3, at Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. He was 79 years of age.
Pastor Lilie was a native of Germany, where he was born at Hohnhorst, Hannover, on Nov. 5, 1878. He came to Mount Olive, Ill., in 1894, and entered Concordia seminary at Springfield the same year. After vicaring in Mitchell county, Iowa, and Henry county, Ohio, he graduated in 1901, and that same year was ordained and installed at Magnetawan, Canada.
He served the Parry Sound Mission field, and for a time at Desboro, Ontario, until 1906. His later pastorates were at Coon Rapids, Persia and Neola, and Van Meter.
He retired from the ministry in 1946, living in Van Meter for five years, and the last seven years in Des Moines.
He was married to Marie Fricke of Mount Olive, Ill., on June 8, 1902. Three of their eight children preceded the father in death.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Carl Lilie of St. Marys, O., and the Rev. Marvin Lilie of Lake View; three daughters, Clara of Des Moines, Mrs. Wayne Erickson of Lorimor and Mrs. Herman Vox of Des Moines; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday from Trinity Lutheran church, Van Meter, with the Rev. Paul C. Stephan of Trinity Lutheran church in Des Moines officiating. Burial was made in Trinity Lutheran cemetery, Van Meter.

Services were held Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran church at 3 o'clock in the afternoon for the Rev. C. Lillie with interment at the Lutheran cemetery.
Rev. Lillie was minister at the Lutheran church south of Van Meter for many years retiring several years ago and had lived in Des Moines since.
