J. A. KITCHELL DIED SUNDAY

Former Custodian At City Park Was 82 Years of Age

James A. Kitchell, a long-time resident of Madison county and Winterset died Sunday, Nov. 2, at his home in Winterset. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Kitchell was a native of Warren county where he was born at Palmyra on Feb. 18, 1876, a son of Charles W. and Mary Morris Kitchell. His active years were spent in farming. He had lived in Winterset since 1941. In 1955 he retired as custodian at the city park.

He was a member of the Winterset Methodist church.

He was married at Winterset on Sept. 3, 1911.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Norton, at home; a son, Wesley W. Kitchell of Des Moines; three brothers, John Kitchell of Ada, Minn., Robert Kitchell of Ipswich, S. Dak., and Herbert Kitchell of Winterset; a sister, Armenta Kitchell of Des Moines, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.

KITCHELL SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Winterset Methodist church for James A. Kitchell of Winterset, whose death at his home in Winterset, November 2 was reported in last week's Madisonian. The Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Kitchell was 82 years of age, and had been in failing health several years. He was a native of Warren county, where he was born at Palmyra on Feb. 18, 1876, a son of Charles W. and Mary E. Morris Kitchell. He was married at Winterset on Sept. 3, 1911, to Linnie M. Edwards. They were parents of two children, Mary Elizabeth and William Wesley.

For the greater part of his life, he engaged in farming near Winterset. He also served as custodian at the Lakeview Country club, and later as custodian at the Winterset city park, from which job he retired in 1953. He was a member of the Winterset Methodist church, and the Masonic lodge here.

Surviving are his wife; the daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Norton of Winterset; the son, Wesley Kitchell of Des Moines; three brothers, John J. Kitchell of Ada, Minn., Robert Kitchell of Ipswich, S. Dak., and Herbert Kitchell of Winterset; and a sister, Arminta, of Des Moines.
