Howard E. King, son of Ambury R. and Minerva Jane King was born December 23, 1879 in Madison County, Iowa and passed away after a lingering illness on June 21, 1958 at the University hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 28 days.
He resided in Madison county until, as a young man he made his home in Chicago, Ill., when he served in the capacity of foreman and supervisor for the postal Telegraph Company for 42 years, after which time he retired because of ill health.
In 1927 he was united in marriage to Irene Cox who preceded him in death in 1939.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge for many years.
He is survived by a foster son, Norman Lee, who could not be located at this time, two brothers, Walter of Cimarron, Kansas and Perry of St. Charles; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie E. Corkill of Waukegan, Illinois, Mrs. Nella Imes of St. Charles and Mrs. Zella Powers of Indianola; ten nieces and eight nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, June 24 at 2:00 o'clock at the St. Charles Methodist church, the Rev. Clifford J. Pine in charge of the services. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.
