FRED IMBODEN OF WINTERSET DIES

Death Occurred Here Monday At Age of 83; Health Had Been Failing

Frederick Imboden, a prominent farmer in Penn and Jackson townships for many years, died this Monday, March 10, at his home in Winterset. He was 82 years of age and had been in failing health in recent months.

Mr. Imboden spent his life in Madison county, except for a year at Glendale, Calif. He was born at Earlham July 4, 1875, a son of Frederick and Louisa Imboden. On April 19, 1905, he was married at Earlham to Bertha Riser. They were parents of five children, all of whom survive their father.

He was a long-time member and active worker in the Penn Center Methodist church, and later of the Winterset Methodist church.

Surviving are his wife; the five children, Mrs. Iris Callison of Winterset, Clifford Imboden of Earlham, Mrs. Irma Thrailkill of Macksburg, Mrs. Ona Nelson of Ames, and Richard Imboden of Fremont, Nebr.; a sister, Mrs. Cora Boyle; a brother, Roy Imboden; 15 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was to be made in the Penn Center cemetery.

OBITUARY

Joseph Frederick Imboden, son of Frederick and Louisa Imboden, was born July 4, 1875 at Earlham, Iowa. His entire life was spent in Madison county except one year at Glendale, California. He was a farmer by occupation and lived on farms in Jackson and Penn townships.

On April 19, 1905 he was married to Bertha Riser at her parental home in Earlham. They became the parents of five children: Mrs. Iris Callison of Winterset; Clifford of Earlham; Mrs. Irma Thrailkill of Macksburg; Mrs. Ona Nelson of Ames and Richard of Fremont, Nebraska.

Mr. Imboden was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Julius and Edward, and two sisters, Lovie and Mary.

Besides his wife and five children he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Cora Boyle, and one brother, Roy, both of Earlham; fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

When a boy Mr. Imboden joined the Penn Center Methodist church and was one of the faithful workers in the rebuilding of that church in 1918. After moving to Winterset, he joined the local Methodist church and remained an active worker until his health failed.

He passed away at his home in Winterset on Monday morning, March 10, 1958 at the age of 82 years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home in Winterset, W. W. Steinmetz, minister. Music by Claire Leeper.

Burial in Penn Center cemetery.
