Death of Mrs. W. N. George

Mrs. W. N. George, who had been in poor health for some time, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Thursday morning, January 4th. She had been ill with heart trouble and dropsy and was taken to the Des Moines hospital for treatment a week previous to her death. She was 63 years of age.

Mrs. George had always lived in this community. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Bard, and was born near Winterset, in the Stringtown neighborhood, August 22, 1866. She was a teacher in the Jackson township schools for several years.

On March 7th, 1886, she was married to Walter N. George. They were the parents of one son, who resides in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Brock, of Winterset. The two children and Mr. George survive her. She also leaves two grandchildren, and four sisters: Mrs. Verna B. Getchell, Los Angeles; Mrs. Ida Gorfriaux, Chicago; Mrs. Jennie Puterbaugh, of Robertsdale, Alabama, and Mrs. Lillia (Lillian) Yares (Yates), of Winterset.

The Rev. A. P. Keast, Pastor of the Methodist church in Winterset conducted the funeral services, Saturday, January 4th, at 1:30 o’clock, in the church, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. W. W. George, who had been sick at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, with leakage of the heart and dropsy, passed away Jan. 2 at 9 o'clock.

Funeral were held at the Methodist church in Winterset, Saturday afternoon, and burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

She will be greatly missed by relatives, friends and neighbors.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral of Mrs. George, were her son, Lloyd George, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, her sister, Mrs. C. W. Godfriaux, from Chicago, Illinois, E. I. Miers, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brown and family, and other friends from Orient, and Mrs. John Sawhill and daughters of Des Moines.

Mrs. W. N. George

Yuba Eugenia Bard George, daughter of John S. and Sarah M. Bard, was born near Winterset, in the community known as the Stringtown neighborhood, August 22d, 1866, and passed away at 9:00 o’clock, a. m., at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Thursday, January 2, 1930, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 11 days. The malady which caused her death was leakage of the heart and dropsy.

She was very patient in her suffering, and always had a kind word for everyone who came to see her. She was of an active disposition, and enjoyed her home and home duties, and was always ready to give help to anyone in need. Her girlhood days were spent in and near Winterset. For a number of years she was a successful teacher in Jackson township. She was converted in early life, and attended the West Star church, though never uniting with any church.

She was married on March 7th, 1886, to Walter N. George, of Winterset. To this union was born one son, Lloyd, who now resides in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Brock, of Winterset. She leaves to mourn her going, her husband, her two children, and two grandchildren, Maxine and Orville Lent. Besides these are four sisters, Mrs. Verna B. Getchell, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Ida Gorfriaux, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Jennie Puterbaugh, Robertsdale, Alabama, and Mrs. Lillian Yates, Winterset, and a host of friends. One sister, Luranda, died in infancy.
