Mariah F., daughter of Oscar B. and Lorenza Whitcomb, was born in Benton county, Iowa, June 15th, 1858. Her girlhood was spent in Benton county, and after she finished the grade schools she attended Tilford Collegiate Academy at Vinton. She was married there to Henry Kile, on January 15, 1891.
To this union three children were born: Almena B., now at home; Paul W., of Winterset, and Gene, of Long Beach, California.
After their marriage they remained on a farm in Benton county until 1897, when they moved to Johnson county, Nebraska, remaining there for three years, then coming to their present home in Madison county, Iowa.
When a girl of fourteen she accepted Christ, and united with the M. E. church. When the family came to Madison county they united with the Methodist church at Union Chapel, where her membership remained. After services at Union Chapel were discontinued she attended at Winterset when her health permitted.
After an illness of several months she passed away in her home October 2, 1930, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 17 days. She leaves her husband and three children, and her many neighbors and friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 4th, at 1:30 o’clock at the Methodist church, by Rev. A. P. Keast, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
