Sanson Hazlett Welch, a well known resident of Madison county, died at his home in the east part of Winterset early Monday morning, January 27th. He was 78 years of age and had been in poor health since he suffered a stroke of paralysis two years ago.
Mr. Welch was born in Maryland, April 4, 1851, and came to this county, with his parents, when he was twelve years of age. The family located on what is known as the Abraham farm, north of Winterset and lived there for six years. They then moved to the home place in Scott township, where he lived with his parents until he was married to Elizabeth Hann, February 22, 1877.
After their marriage they lived on a farm in Lincoln township for two years, and then they purchased a farm in Scott township, on which they resided until in 1904, when they moved to Winterset.
Mr. Welch is survived by three children, Mrs. Walter J. Schoenenberger and Frank and Earl Welch, all of Scott township. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Florence Lake, of Orient.
The Rev. A. P. Keast, assisted by the Rev. W. C. Porter, conducted the funeral services Wednesday, January 28, at the Methodist church, at 1:30 o’clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

S. H. Welch
Sanson Hazlett Welch was born in Maryland, April 4, 1851, and departed this life January 27, 1930, at the age of 78 years, nine months and 23 days.
He came with his parents to Ottumwa Iowa at the age of 10 years. When he was 12 years old they moved to what is known as the Abraham's farm, north of Winterset. He lived there until he was 18 years old. He then moved to the farm in Scott Township where he lived with his parents until he was married to Elizabeth Hann, February 22, 1877. They moved to a farm in Lincoln township, living there two years. They then purchased a farm across the road from his father's farm and lived there until 1904, when they moved to Winterset, where he lived until the time of his death. Had he lived until February 22, they would have been married 53 years.
This union was blessed with five children: two died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. W. J. Schoenenberger; two sons, Frank E. And girl Welch, although Scott township, one sister, Mrs. Florence Lake, of Orient; eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He suffered with a stroke of paralysis two years ago, from which he never fully recovered, being a patient sufferer during all that time.
He was converted at the age of 43 at the Bethel church in Scott Township and lives faithful to his belief among his many friends and neighbors till the end came.
