FRANK S. HAMILTON DIES IN OKLAHOMA

Former Winterset Banker Is Victim of Cancer; Dies at 66 Years

Frank S. Hamilton for many years, a cashier of the First National bank in Winterset, died at a Norman, Oklahoma hospital, Friday afternoon, November 15th, after a short illness with cancer at the age of 66 years. Funeral services were held at Harlan, where he had resided, from 1943 to 1949, Tuesday morning, November 19th, at the H. C. Pauley Home for funerals, at 11 o'clock, and he was brought here for graveside services at 3 o'clock that afternoon.

A son of Joseph and Katherine Hamilton, he was born on a farm near Peru, September 5, 1891, but came to Winterset, with his parents, when he was a youth. He attended the local schools, and was graduated from the State University of Iowa, at Iowa City in 1915. Following graduation, he established his home in Winterset, and served as cashier of the First National bank, until it was consolidated with the Winterset Savings bank, and later the Madison county State Bank.

In 1933, he went with the F.D.I.C. and later with the State Banking department and was sent to banks in Malvern and Red Oak. While at Harlan, he was cashier of the Harlan National bank, and then returned to Red Oak where he served as vice president of the Montgomery National bank, until he retired January 1, 1956. He and his wife went to Norman, in March 1956, where they resided until his death.

While at the University, he was married to Miss Grayce Myers of North Liberty, December 23, 1914. They were the parents of two daughters, Janet Elaine who died in infancy, and Beverly, Mrs. Frank Wirth Jr. of Harlan who survives him. Grayce Hamilton died in Winterset, December 1, 1932. He was married to Sophia Martin Massey of Norman, Sept. 5, 1955; she survives him. He also leaves a brother Clair E. Hamilton, Iowa City attorney, and two grandsons, James 11, and Joel aged 6, of Harlan. A brother, Ernest, preceded him in death.

Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon, national fraternity at Iowa City and was a member of the Winterset First Presbyterian church. He was also a Mason, a member of the order of Eastern Star, and other service clubs, and organizations.
