Miss Janie Grosscup, who had been a resident of Madison county for a number of years, died last Thursday, September 11th, at her home on West Filmore street. Miss Grosscup had been in poor health for the past couple of years, and her condition became critical a few days before her death.

The family came to Winterset in 1907, and Miss Janie and her sister, Miss Alice, made their home on West Filmore street. The Grosscups were active workers in the United Presbyterian church.
The Rev. W. C. Porter conducted the funeral services Saturday, September 13th, at 2:30 o’clock, at Tidrick’s funeral home, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Janie A. Groscup, the daughter of Daniel and Isabel Groscup, was born the 27th of July, 1867, in Ashland county, Ohio. She went to heaven from her home in Winterset on September 11, 1930.
She came with her parents when they emigrated to Iowa in 1866. They made their home in the Maple Grove neighborhood. The life of the community centered much in the home, as their father, with the help of his daughters, kept the Maple Grove postoffice. In 1907, the family came to Winterset. Here Janie won the way into the hearts of a multitude as she served them across the counter in Shaw’s store.
She was baptized when an infant in arms into the Lutheran church in Ohio. In young womanhood she professed her faith publicly in the Pitzer United Presbyterian church. When she came to town her membership was transferred to the Winterset church, where she served in every way she possibly could and with special efficiency as a Bible teacher.
Of her family there survive her a sister, near and dear, Alice M. Groscup, of Winterset; a brother, Luther Groscup, of Des Moines; a brother, Rev. Daniel Groscup, of Spokane, Washington; a nephew, Mark Thompson, of Des Moines, and other relatives.
