Death of E. J. Alexander

Erwin Joseph Alexander, well known Winterset man, died at his home here Sunday as the result of a stroke suffered last Thursday. He was 55 years old and had been an invalid for more than a year.

Mr. Alexander had lived in Winterset for the past eight years. He was born near Winterset on January 17, 1881. He was married to Henrietta Louise Schoen on March 25, 1903. They were the parents of five children, Lenore, Louise, Roberta, Joe and Gertrude.

In addition to his widow and children, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Ethle Koehler and Sample Alexander of near Van Meter, Fred Alexander of near Winterset, Mrs. Eva Woods of near Earlham, and Mrs. Ada Schoen of Newbert, Oregon.

No definite arrangements for funeral services and burial had been made this week, due to weather conditions and blocked roads.

SERVICES ARE TODAY FOR E. J. ALEXANDER

Services for Erwin J. Alexander, 55, who died Sunday afternoon at four o’clock will be held this afternoon at one o’clock at the Ramsey – Richards funeral home, burial will be in the Jefferson church cemetery.

Mr. Alexander had been an invalid about a year, following a paralytic stroke. He had been seriously ill since Thursday evening of last week. The family has lived in Winterset the last eight years.

He was the son of Joseph and Mary Alexander and was born January 17, 1881. His marriage to Henrietta Louise Schoen took place March 25, 1903. He has survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Lenore Lineweaver, Louise, Roberta, Joe and Gertrude. Other relatives are sisters and brothers, Mrs. Etha Koehler of Van Meter; Mrs. Ada Schoen of Newburg, Oregon; Mrs. Eva woods of Earlham; Fred and Sample Alexander.

Funeral services were planned for Thursday afternoon at one o’clock at the Ramsey – Richards funeral home; burial will be in Jefferson church cemetery. Owing to the Wednesday snow, it may be necessary to change plans and definite information may be had by calling Ramsey – Richards for the hour of services.

E. J. Alexander

Erwin Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alexander, was born in Madison county, January 17, 1881, and passed away at his home in Winterset February 9, 1936 the age of 55 years, 3 weeks and 2 days.

On March 25, 1903 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Schoen and is survived by his wife, four daughters, one son, Leonore Lineweaver, Louise, Roberta, Joseph, Jr., and Gertrude, three sisters and two brothers.

Erwin was a member of United Brethren church since young manhood. Most of his life was spent on the farm, and his occupation as a farmer ceased in 1921 when he developed blood poisoning from an injury of his right hand. Through the fifteen years of poor health he fought a losing fight to recovery.

Is one desire was to live to see his children educated so they could take care of themselves. A year ago in November he had a stroke and was bed fast for more than four months and an invalid until his death.
