Death of F. M. Cox

One of the oldest residents of Madison county, passed away at his home in Winterset Wednesday in the death of Francis Marion Cox. Seventy-five of his 77 years had been spent in this county.

Mr. Cox was born near Dallas Center on March 2, 1859. When he was two years old he came with his parents, Jonathan and Cynthia Ann Cox to Madison County and since that time this had been his home.

He united with the Methodist church when he was 19 years old and remained a life-long member.

He was married on April 2, 1884 to Sarah Reed. They were the parents of six children, two of whom Leona and Ethel, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Charles and Boyd Cox; two daughters, Mrs. D. C. Ward and Mrs. C. L. Newton; all living in this community. He also leaves a brother, L. S. Cox of Rosepine, Louisiana, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Pallbearers were Elbridge Guye, Leonard Abrahams, Oscar Lee, Ernie Tompkins, Raymond Vance and John Button.
