Heart Attack is Fatal to Prominent Farmer of Near Peru

Darius Hollingsworth, well known farmer living near Peru, died of a heart attack last Saturday afternoon, February 16. Mr. Hollingsworth had heart trouble, but his condition was not regarded as serious. On Saturday afternoon, he had gone to the woodpile to chop some wood. While there, he suffered the attack, and was unconscious when found. He died soon afterwards.

Mr. Hollingsworth was born April 16, 1872. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nimrod Hollingsworth, pioneer settlers of this county. His entire life was spent in the Peru neighborhood. Following his graduation from the Peru school, he attended the Christian college at Le Grande. He was married in 1900 to Miss Agnes Lorimor, and since then they have made their home on the old Hollingsworth farm, a mile northwest of Peru. He leaves his wife, and their one son, Eugene of Greeley, Colorado. He is also survived by a brother, D. E. Hollingsworth of Winterset.

The Rev. E. L. Patterson, pastor of the Peru church conducted his funeral services at the home, Tuesday, February 18, at two o'clock and burial was in the Peru cemetery.

PERU FARMER DIES OF HEART ATTACK

D. Hollingsworth Is Stricken – Services Are Held Tuesday At Home

Darius Hollingsworth, 63, widely known farmer living near Peru, died Saturday. Mrs. Hollingsworth found him during the afternoon slumped over near the wood pile where he had been working about an hour, after she had been attracted by the team going toward the barn. He was unconscious and death followed a short time after. The cause was given as a heart attack.

Mr. Hollingsworth was a member of two of the oldest families in the county, the son of Nimrod B. Hollingsworth and Evaline Hiatt Hollingsworth. The Hiatt family came to Madison county in 1850 from Indiana, Mr. Hiatt building the home which for many years has been occupied by the Darius Hollingsworth family. The Nimrod Hollingsworth family, also Indianians, settled in the county in 1859.

Mr. Hollingsworth was born in the county April 16, 1872. He attended Le Grande college at LE Grande and taught school for a time but most of his life farming. He was a member of the Christian church.

His marriage to Miss Agnes Lorimor took place October 2, 1900, who with their son, Eugene Hollingsworth, of Greely, Colorado, survive.

Services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by the rev. Patterson, pastor of the Peru Methodist church. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.
