Life-Long Resident of This County Was 78 Years of Age
Morty Drake, a life-long resident of Madison county, died last Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the age of 78 years.
Simon Morty Drake was born Feb. 9, 1880. His life was spent in farming, and for many years he had lived in Douglas township. He was a life-long member of the Early Chapel church.
He was married Dec. 10, 1903, to Clara Trimmer, who survives him. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Taylor, of Arkansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Clyde Collins of Des Moines; a son, Claude Drake of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Richards funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Paul Moore, pastor of Early Chapel. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Simon Morty Drake was born on the 9th of February, 1880. He passed from this life on November 26, 1958. He spent all his life in Madison County. He joined the Early Chapel church when a boy, and continued as an active member as long as he was able.
He was united in marriage, on December 10, 1903 with Clara Trimmer.
When no longer able to attend church services because of failing health, the radio served as preacher each Sunday, as many church services came into the home. In recent years, each evening was spent in reading the Bible and other religious periodicals. He had finished his seventh complete study of the Holy Book. Truly, his faith was one of the most important parts of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Clara; two daughters: Mrs. H. H. Taylor, Arkansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Clyde Collins, Des Moines; a son, Claude, of Des Moines; by thirteen grandchildren; and by fifteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Richard's funeral home at Winterset Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. C. Paul Moore of Early Chapel was in charge. burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
