Winterset, IowaANNIS CLAMPITT DIES AT 94 YEARS
One of This County's Oldest Residents Had Lived Here Since Childhood
Mrs. Annis Clampitt, one of Madison county's oldest residents, died here Monday, Aug. 11, after several years of failing health. She was 94 years of age.
Mrs. Clampitt was born in Linn county on Sept. 11, 1863, a daughter of Israel and Sintha Dowers Miller. When she was about 2 years old she came to Madison county with her parents, and this community had been her home during the remainder of her long life.
As a child she had united with what is now the Early Chapel church, of which she remained a life-time member. Since moving to Winterset, she had attended the Winterset Christian church.
She was married to David Clampitt on Dec. 21, 1879. He preceded her in death, as did three of their six children, a daughter, Nelle, and two sons, Charles and Frank Clampitt.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Tilton of Winterset and Mrs. Elsie Piatt of Earlham, a son, Lee Clampitt of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. S. C. Picken of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
