Wednesday, June 18, 1947L. M. BRIGGS Dies In Gun Accident
L. M. Briggs, former Winterset resident, was killed in a hunting accident at Chico, Calif., Monday June 16, 1947, according to information reaching here Tuesday.
Mr. Briggs and his son, Gerald, had returned from a hunting trip. He was getting out of his car, pulling the gun after him, when it discharged accidentally, killing him instantly.
Mr. Briggs was 74 years of age. He was born in Illinois, on Oct. 8, 1872, the son of James and Catherine Briggs. As a small boy, he moved to Nebraska with his parents. There he was married, Dec. 18, 1901, to Daisy Robbins.
They came to Winterset shortly after their marriage Mr. Briggs engaged in the meat business here for many years. About 10 years ago he moved to California. He and Gerald Briggs had been operating an almond orchard near Chico.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Daisy Briggs of Winterset; three sons, Alfred, Gerald and Hubert Briggs, all of California; three grandchildren; three sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services and burial were held this Wednesday at Chico.
