Death of Former Legislator Occurs in Des Moines on Thanksgiving
David Brittain, a prominent Madison county farmer and a member of a pioneer family in this county, died last Thursday, Nov. 27, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 87 years of age, and had lived in Des Moines since 1941.
Mr. Brittain was born in Madison county on March 27, 1871, a son of Alfred C. and Julia Brittain. He was married on April 4, 1900, to Sarah E. Thompson. They were parents of five children, three of whom died in infancy. The wife and mother died in 1940.
Mr. Brittain was active in Madison county politics for many years, and served as state representative from this county from 1922 to 1924.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Waltz of Perry and Mrs. Harry Wilson of Chariton; three nephews who were reared in his home, Ivan Mauk of Des Moines, Harold Mauk of Norwalk, and Ora Mauk of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Robert Brittain of Winterset; two grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Anderson home for funeral in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the Winterset Christian church. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery in Jefferson township.
