NELLIE BENSON DIED THURSDAY

Was Long-Time Resident of Community Near Macksburg

Mrs. Nellie Benson, a long-time resident of Madison county, died last Thursday, Nov. 20, at a Winterset nursing home. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Benson was the former Nellie Harpole, daughter of Alfred and Jane Harpole. She was born at Colfax, Ill., on March 12, 1876. She was married to Arthur D. Benson on Feb. 27, 1895, and they spent their first year of marriage on a farm near Ames. The next year they settled on a farm near Macksburg where they lived until Mr. Benson's death in 1931. She remained there, living with her daughter and family until 1936 when she moved to near Dexter. For the last three years she had been in nursing homes in West Des Moines and Winterset.

As a girl in Illinois she had united with the Presbyterian church. During her long residence near Macksburg she became a member of the Wells Congregational church.

Two of her five children died in infancy. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don Eckles of Dexter; and two sons, Denman Benson of Keokuk and J. C. Benson of Earlham; three grandsons, six great grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl, of Cottonwood Falls, Kan.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Anderson's home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. Donald Enright. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery at Macksburg.
