Adams County Man Died at Winterset After 16 Months Here
Peter H. Bailiff, who had been making his home in Winterset the last 16 months, died at his home here Monday, Sept. 25. He was 86 years of age.
Mr. Bailiff was born in Webster City on Nov. 13, 1875, a son of Peter H. and Mattie Bailiff. He moved with his parents to Adams county when he was 5 years of age, and his life was spent there until 16 months ago, when he came to Winterset to be near his children.
On Feb. 23, 1898, he was married to Lena McKelvy. Her death occurred in 1906, and on July 22, 1907, he was married to Ortie P. Burnett. They were parents of six children.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Mt. Etna.
Surviving are his wife; the children, Jennings, at home, Mrs. Letha Mitchel of Corning, Harry of Portland, Ore., Ross of Corning, Mrs. Frances Waters of Winterset, Mrs. Lulu Barker of Greeley, Colo., Merrill of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Lawrence of St. Charles; a step-daughter, Ruby Clites of Nebraska City, Nebr.; in addition to 30 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and a sister, Maude Burgett of Quincy, Ill.
Funeral services were held Sept 28 from the Church of the Brethren at Mt. Etna, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Walker and the Rev. Leonard Lutz. Burial was made in Mt. Etna cemetery.
