Native of County Had Been Living in Minnesota Since 1958
John Beard, a native of Madison county and a resident here for many years, died Dec. 14 at Princeton Community hospital in Princeton, Minn. He was 82 years of age. Death followed a stroke.
Mr. Beard was born at Winterset Nov. 4, 1879, a son of William and Eliza Beard. He enlisted in the U.S. army in 1907, serving two years. After his discharge in 1909, he farmed with his father here for three years then went into farming for himself.
He was married at Winterset on Dec. 4, 1912, to Addie May Looney of Zimmerman, Minn. In 1920 they moved to the Beard homestead in Webster township. They lived there until 1958, when they sold the farm and moved to Zimmerman, Minn.
Surviving are his wife; a brother, Clyde Beard of Winterset; two sisters Mrs. Ruth DeBord of Winterset and Mrs. Pearl Keith of Reseda, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Congregational church at Princeton, with burial in Oak Knoll cemetery in that community.
