Delmar LaDean Fouts was born October 21, 1921, at Earlham, Iowa, the son of Gladys Mae Nolte and Fred F. Fouts. He passed away October 19, 1961, at Veterans hospital in Des Moines.
Delmar's early childhood days were filled with many pleasant memories of home in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and in Saginaw, Michigan. The family later moved to Des Moines where Delmar finished grade school and attended North High School. He made many visits to his grandparents back at Earlham.
On reaching the age of 21 he joined the United State Air Force. In 1946 he met and married Thelma Murphy, and to them were born three children: Dean, now 14, Van 12, and Jane 10.
While still in the service, he spent 18 months in Paris, France, where his wife and children joined him. In 1953 he was honorably discharged, and he and his family settled in Iowa. He was a member of the Methodist church at Hansell, Iowa.
Left to mourn his parting are his wife and children; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fouts; and three sisters, Mrs. Frances Hill of Earlham, Mrs. Robert Campbell of Des Moines, and Mrs. Dean Ellett of Guayaquil, Ecuador, South America. He leaves, also, six nieces and nephews; one step-brother, Bill Palmer of Pompano Beach, Florida; one step-sister, Mrs. Gene Corkrean of Winterset, Iowa. Besides his family he leaves a host of friends, many in this community, some who knew him only for his ready smile and helping hand which will be missed from the Jennings Super Market where he has been the past five years.
Once again Delmar is returning to Earlham, the place of his birth, as a final resting place.
Funeral services were held in the Hampton Congregational church, October 23, at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. John Fritzmeier in charge. A graveside service was held at the Earlham cemetery at 3:30 in the afternoon with the Rev. L. Willard Reynolds officiating.
