Long-Time Resident of This County Was 81 Years of Age
Mrs. Elinor B. Homes of St. Charles died Friday, Oct. 6, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset.
She was 81 years of age.
Mrs. Holmes was a life-time resident of Madison county. She was the former Elinor Breeding, daughter of George and Sarah McMichael Breeding, and was born in Scott township on July 9, 1880.
She was married June 28, 1903, to Lester C. Holmes. His death occurred on May 11, 1960.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church.
She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Earl Schoonover, Mrs. Edith Shaw and Mrs. Mildred Bek, all of Winterset, and Mrs. Mary Fife of Des Moines; a son, Carl Holmes of Winterset; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lula James of Anaheim, Calif.; a half sister, Ruth Peak of Macksburg; and three half brothers, Hugh Peak of Macksburg, Bruce Peak of Mesa, Ariz., and Ralph Peak of St. Charles.
Funeral services were held this Monday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Lewis E. Lint. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
