Native of Adair County Had Reached Age of 89 Years
Mrs. Martha F. George, a Madison county resident for 45 years, died Saturday, Oct. 7, at a Winterset nursing home. She was 89 years of age.
Mrs. George was a native of Adair county, where she was born Nov. 30, 1871, a daughter of Soloman and Sarah Jane Spann Garrett. Her life was spent in Adair and Madison counties, with the exception of 13 years in Oklahoma.
She was married July 5, 1892, to Frederick O. Mapes. He preceded her in death in 1927. She was married in 1947 to Walter George, who preceded her in death also.
Mrs. George leaves two sons, Dick Mapes, of Winterset and Floyd Mapes of Selah, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs. Irma Thomas of Ft. Supply, Okla., and Mrs. Tressa Sherwood, Mrs. Bessie Watkins, and Mrs. Lulu Leech, also of Selah, Wash. She also leaves 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the Winterset Christian church. Burial was made in the Roberts cemetery in Adair county.
