STELLA THOMAS DIED MONDAY

Funeral Services Set for This Thursday in Winterset

Mrs. Stella E. Thomas, a resident of Madison county for 60 years, died Monday, Feb. 27, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Thomas was a native of Jasper county, where she was born near Baxter on Oct. 17, 1875. She was the former Stella Elsie Wier, daughter of Henry and Emma Slate Wier.

She was married at Coon Rapids on March 14, 1897, to Harry E. Thomas. As a young woman she taught school near Glidden, and later in Madison county.

As a young woman she was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Friends church. In later life she attended the Wesley Chapel, West Star Methodist, and United Brethren churches, and in recent years the Winterset Methodist church.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1947. She leaves one son, Eldon L. Thomas of Winterset; five grandchidlren, Irene Thomas of Des Moines, Leslie Thomas of Alden, Gerald Thomas of Winterset, Mrs. Loree Hawkins of Adel and Donald Thomas of Winterset; a brother, Jasper Wier; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Anderson-Wilson Funeral home, with the Rev. Arthur Weed of Orient officiating. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
