FRANK H. LILLARD DIED WEDNESDAY

Funeral Services Held Here Friday, With Burial at Red Oak

Frank H. Lillard, a native of Garden Grove and a resident of various Iowa communities over a period of years, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset.

Mr. Lillard was the father of Donal R. Lillard, superintendent of the Winterset Community schools.

Mr. Lillard was 77 years of age at his death. He was born at Garden Grove on Sept. 19, 1884 a son of Gardner and Ella McPherrin Lillard. His early life was spent in Decatur county, until about 1900, when the family moved to Red Oak. There he was married in 1905 to Zetta Ann Redmon.

For many years Mr. Lillard was engaged in the wholesale and retail grocery business in various capacities, including shipping clerk, manager, salesman and store owner. He followed this business at Red Oak, and later in Clarinda, Denison and Corydon. From 1943 until 1947 he served two terms as Wayne county auditor. In 1948 he moved to Toledo where he acted as bookkeeper at the State Juvenile home. He retired July 1, 1958 and had been living at the Rowley Memorial Masonic home in Perry, being the second resident to enter that home.

He was a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic lodge at Corydon.

Mr. Lillard's wife preceded him in death in 1957. One son, Robert died in infancy.

In addition to the son, Donal R. Lillard of Winterset, he is survived by three grandchildren, Mrs. Edward Duncan of West Hartford, Conn., and David and July Lillard of Winterset; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Collins Funeral home at Winterset last Friday, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made at Evergreen cemetery in Red Oak.
