Winterset, IowaGERTRUDE NICHOLS DIED HERE FRIDAY
Formerly of Worthington Was 92 Years of Age
Mrs. Gertrude A. Nichols of Indianola, died last Friday, Oct. 6, at a Winterset nursing home, where she had spent the last 10 weeks. She was 92 years of age.
Mrs. Nichols was the mother of George R. Nichols of Winterset.
She was a native of Bethel, Mo., where she was born March 21, 1869, a daughter of Robert and Rhonda Finney McIntyre. As a young woman, she taught school at Jefferson, Ia., for nine years.
She was married June 24, 1895, to Earnest V. Nichols, at Des Moines. From 1895 to 1919 they made their home in the Worthington community of Madison county. Since 1919 her home had been at Indianola.
She was a emmber of the Methodist church, and the Woman's Christian Temperance union.
Mrs. Nichol's husband preceded her in death. In additon to George R. Nichols of Winterset, she leaves two other sons, Howard B. Nichols of Des Moines and Dr. Ray M. Nichols of Earlville, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Verde E. McCombs of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ella D. Houghtaling of Denver, Colo.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Anderson-Wilson Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. John. C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Worthington cemetery.
