OBITUARY

Valverda Janette Wroe was born June 21, 1871 in Madison County, Iowa, near Earlham. She was the daughter of William Hopewell Wroe and Ann Mendenhall Wroe, both of whom came to Iowa from Indiana. Verda, as she was known to all her many friends, spent her girlhood here except for a few years in Indiana after the death of her father.

Verda was married to Allen Kenworthy February 19, 1891, and lived on their farm north of Earlham the rest of her life. To this union were born three sons: Bruce R., Robert Troy, and Beryl Allen.

Verda's husband, Allen, died January 12, 1932. She and her youngest son, Beryl, stayed on the farm and by thrift and strict economy managed to keep their homestead through the depression of the 30's.

Through the years Verda Kenworthy has been a faithful and loyal member of the Friends church. It must be said of this courageous woman that she never lost faith in her Maker and was ever willing to testify to His help and guidance.

She leaves surviving her two sons, Bruce R., and Beryl A.; five grandchildren--Alice Mason, Robert E. Kenworthy, Margaret and Richard Kenworthy, and Robert T. Kenworthy. Also surviving are six great grandchildren. She departed this life October 1, 1961, at the age of 90 years, four months and ten days.

The funeral service was held in the Earlham Friends church at two o'clock on Tuesday, October 3. The pastor, L. Willard Reynolds, was in charge. Miss Marie Gundrum presided at the organ. Singers were Isabella Godby and Carol Thomas, accompanied by Gertrude Conrad. Interment was in the old North Branch cemetery east of Earlham.

Note: cemetery records indicate she was buried in North Branch cemetery, not the Earlham cemetery as printed in the Madisonian.
