WIFE OF JUDGE DIED TUESDAY

Mrs. Phil Wilkinson Victim of Heart Attack At Age of 78

Mrs. Phil R. Wilkinson, well known Winterset resident, died at the Madison county Memorial hospital, Tuesday, November 17th, at the age of 78 years. She became ill with a heart condition, September 26th, and was taken to the hospital, where it was thought that she was improving; death came at noon on Tuesday.

Born May 25, 1881, in Winterset, Lida, as she was familiarly known, was a daughter of W. C. and Lydia Philbrick Newlon; her father was a real estate man here, and she always made her home in Winterset, with the exception of a year, about 50 years ago, when she resided in Montana because of her health. She attended what was known then as the Baptist college in Des Moines, after she finished the Winterset high school, and was married to Judge Phil R. Wilkinson, July 4, 1906. They were the parents of one daughter, Helen, Mrs. J. Warren Pattie of Marshalltown.

Survivors include the husband, and daughter, and two sisters, Mrs. Will (Carrie) Shambaugh of Winterset, and Mrs. Mary Green of Los Angeles, California. She also leaves two grandchildren, Ensign Phil Pattie, who is stationed with a Navy air corps in Bermuda, and is now taking a three week's special training course, at Norfolk, and Miss Mary Pattie, who is a sophomore student at Iowa State University at Ames. Mrs. Wilkinson was one of a family of nine, but her six brothers have preceded her in death.

She joined the First Baptist church in Winterset when she was a girl; she has been a member of Chapter AG P.E.O for 52 years, and also a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She and her husband have resided in the Wilkinson home on West Court Avenue, where he was born, the past 32 years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkinson will be held at the Anderson home for Funerals, Friday morning, November 20th at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Robert A. Damon, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
