Shari Rae Medick, 34, of Des Moines died April 1, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 5, at the St. Charles Parish Church with Pastors Ron Ridgway and Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Shari Medick was born Dec. 12, 1972, in Des Moines to Garald Lee and Alice J. (Strawn) Slye. She was a graduate of Interstate 35 High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University. Shari lived in Des Moines before moving to Omaha, Neb., for a brief time. Her marriage to Jason Medick took place Jan. 1, 1999, in Des Moines. Jason and Shari owned and operated Home Instead Senior Care for the past five years, with offices in Waukee and Ames. She was instrumental in organizing “Be a Santa for Seniors” through their business, delivering many gifts to seniors in various communities. Shari also was an active member of the St. Charles Parish Church, where she had presented the Good Friday Tenebrae service for the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Virgil Slye and Northa Strawn.

She is survived by her husband, Jason, and two daughters, Alice and Pearl, all of Des Moines; her parents, Alice and Garald of New Virginia; a sister, Shana Richardson of St. Charles; a brother, Steven Slye of Des Moines; and grandparents John Strawn of St. Charles and Mildred Slye of New Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Parish Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.

DEATHS

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. today (Thursday) at St. Charles Parish Church for Shari Medick, 34, of Des Moines. Visitation will be Wednesday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with family present 6-8 p.m. She died April 1, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Survivors included her husband, Jason Medick and daughters, Alice and Pearl of Des Moines and parents, Garald and Alice Slye of New Virginia. Full obituary will be in next issue of paper.

Shari Rae Medick

Shari Rae Medick, daughter of Garald Lee Slye and Alice J. Strawn Slye, was born Dec. 12, 1972 in Des Moines. She died suddenly April 1, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 34.

She graduated from Interstate 35 High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University. She lived in Des Moines before moving to Omaha, Neb., for a brief time. She met Jason Medick upon returning to Des Moines, and they married Jan. 1, 1999, in Des Moines. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Alice, 6, and Pearl 2.

The couple owned and operated Home Instead Senior Care for the past five years with offices in Waukee and Ames. Mrs. Medick was instrumental in organizing “Be A Santa for Seniors” through their business and delivered many gifts to seniors in various communities.

Her passions were her family, her friends, her church and her business. She certainly had a talent for entertaining and everything was an event. Mrs. Medick was a devoted member of the St. Charles Parish Church and had presented the Good Friday Tenebrae service for the past three years.

Mrs. Medick was preceded in death by her grandparents, Virgil Slye and Northa Strawn.

She is survived by her husband, Jason Medick and daughters, Alice and Pearl of Des Moines; parents, Alice and Garald Slye of New Virginia; sister, Shana Richardson and husband Tod of St. Charles, brother, Steven Slye of Des Moines; grandparents, John Strawn of St. Charles and Mildred Slye of New Virginia; parents-in-law, Steve and Pat Medick of Springfield, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Jenny Reineke and husband Ben of Belle Plaine and Gina Schlake and husband Jarod of Omaha, Neb.; nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins; other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Medick were April 5 at St. Charles Parish Church in St. Charles, Pastor Ron Ridgway and Pastor Sandy Smith officiating with Nancy Ramey conducting children’s services. Organist was Kay Gesamen and Dennis Strawn was vocalist.

Casket bearers were Charles Strawn, Dean Strawn, Russell Strawn, Phillip Strawn and Dennis Strawn.

Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery at St. Charles. Kale Funeral Homes in Osceola and Truro was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the St Charles Parish Church in St. Charles.
