Sarah Frances Snavely was born October 29, 1851, at North Liberty, Johnson county, Iowa, being a daughter of Michael and Catherine Snavely, and the youngest of twelve children. She departed this life at her home in Winterset, Iowa, June 8, 1930, aged 78 years, 7 months and 10 days.
She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Peters on the 31st day of December, 1874, and to this union four children were born, three of whom are living, Cecil R. Peters, of Des Moines; Addie L. Hickman, of Hamburg, and Catherine Lochrie, of Ilwaco, Washington, Jessie S. Peters having preceded her in death January 8, 1930. Her husband, Joseph L. Peters, preceded her in death, August 4, 1915. Besides her three living children and four grandchildren, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. J. C. Kepford, of Waterloo, and one half-brother, Ira J. Chamberlain, of North Liberty.
Soon after her marriage, she and her husband moved to a farm in Monroe township, Madison county, where they resided until the year of 1883, when they moved to Winterset, where she had since resided.
Early in childhood she was baptized into the Church of God, and upon her removal to Winterset, she with her husband united with the Baptist church, of which church she had been a consistent member ever since.
She was a charter member of Pitzer Post W. R. C. of Winterset, of which organization only one charter member now survives.
She was a loving and devoted mother, a sincere friend to all with whom she came in contact. During the last few years of her life she was sorely afflicted and suffered much pain from her physical affliction, yet she remained cheerful to the end, her faith never wavered.

Death Follows Long Illness, Made Home in Winterset Since 1883
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Frances Peters, 78, whose death occurred Sunday, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist church conducted by the Rev. J. T. Hall, assisted by the rev. a. E. Kepford, of Gladbrook, a nephew of the deceased; burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Peters was the daughter of Michael and Catherine Shavely and was born at North Liberty, October 29, 1851, the youngest of twelve children. She was married December 31 , 1874 to Joseph L. Peters, who died August 4, 1915. Of her four children three are living, Cecil R. Peters, Des Moines; Addie L. Hickman, Hamburg; Catherine Lochrie, Ilwaco, Washington. Another daughter, Jessie S. Peters died January 8, 1930. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. J. C. Kepford, of Waterloo, and a half brother, Ira J. Chamberlain, of North Liberty.
Mr. and Mrs Peters moved soon after their marriage to a farm in Monroe township where they lived until 1883 when they came to Winterset which became the family residence. She was baptized early in childhood in the Church of God, uniting with the Baptist church soon after moving here. She had been a devoted member and as long as her health permitted had taken an active part in all church work. She was a charter member of the Pitzer Post W. R. C. of which organization but one charter member now survives.
Mrs. Peters had been in ill health several years. Following the death of her daughter she was stricken with paralysis and had been bedfast since that time.
