After their marriage they made their home in Madison county for a number of years. Later, Mrs. Newton was left a widow and made her home in Winterset, where she raised her family and continued to live until the past 5 years, that she has made her home in Des Moines.

At a very early age she united with the Elm Grove M. E. church and afterwards transferred her membership to the Winterset Methodist church, where she remained a member until her death. She remained active and busy in the home of her daughter until two hours before her death, which came suddenly on October 16th, at the age of 77 years.

She leaves beside her daughter, three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ellen Garlinger, of Reeding, Kansas; one half-brother, Elmer Allen, of Winterset; a step-brother and step-sisters, and many other relatives and friends.
