O. Lee Evans, son of Asa W. and Mary Henderson Evans, was born in Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa, November 17, 1868 and died at his home 3-1/2 miles northwest of Winterset June 21st, 1930, aged 61 years, 7 months, and 5 days.
Those who mourn his passing are a devoted brother, J. V. Evans, who with himself have kept up the home since the death of the mother May 13th, 1917; two sisters, Mrs. Tina Whetstone and Mrs. Ella Klingman; one niece, Mrs. Marie Klingman Peterson; one nephew, John Evans Klingman and their families, and a host of friends.
Lee, as he was called by his friends and relatives, was a man of generous impulses, sincere and steadfast in his friendship, an intensive student, enjoying literature music and the finer things of life.
He had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for more than 35 years and took an active interest in the political affairs of his county and country.
Lee had been in failing health for about four years and has suffered intensely during his last illness of 10 weeks. His patience was remarkable, not a murmur or complaint passed his lips. The end came peacefully, “as one who wraps the draperies of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams; and the spirit returning to the Maker who gave it.
Funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 p. m., June 24 conducted by rev. H. L. Olmstead. of Winterset Church of Christ and Madison Lodge number 135, I. O. O. F. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
