Kaye Kerr Oxley Had Been Married Just Two Weeks
Mrs. Donnis Oxley of near Winterset, a bride of two weeks was fatally injured Satruday evening in a car crash 6 miles southwest of Macksburg. The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. and Mrs. Oxley died of head and chest injuries, shortly after 11 p.m., at Memorial hospital in Winterset.
Mrs. Oxley's death was the third highway fatality of the current year in Madison county.
The accident occurred at a T intersection on a county road southwest of Macksburg. Mrs. Oxley, who was 19 years of age, was riding in a car driven by her 18 year old husband, who is a student at Macksburg high school.
The official report of investigating officers stated that Oxley was driving at a high rate of speed. He was familiar with the road, having driven it many times in the last two years. But he was going too fast to make the corner. His car jumped the ditch and plunged head on against the embankment.
Mrs. Oxley was thrown heavily against the windshield and dashboard. Both she and her husband were brought to Memorial hospital. He is reported to have received a concussion and minor cuts. He was released from the hospital Tuesday.
Mrs. Oxley was a life-long resident of Madison county. She was the former Sharon Kaye Kerr, daughter of LeRoy J. Kerr, Jr. and the present Lois Armstrong Ingram, and was born Dec. 17, 1939, in this county. Since she was 9 months old, she had lived with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Asa Armstrong of Webster township.
She graduated from Winterset high school with the class of 1957, following which she took a year of nurse's training at Marshalltown. Recently she had been employed as a filing clerk and typist at Bankers Life company in Des Moines.
She was a member of the Oak Grove church.
She was married to Donnis Oxley at Winterset, this Oct. 10.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father and mother; her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Asa Armstrong of Winterset and Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Kerr of Long Beach, Calif.; two half brothers James and Dwight Ingram and a half sister, Jean Ingram of Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Wesley Lowery. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
