SAMPSON D.SCOTT Of Truro Died Jan. 18 At Boone

Sampson D. Scott, a resident of Truro died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 18, 1947, at the home of his son in Boone, where he had been visiting since Jan. 2. He was 76 years old.

Mr. Scott was a life-long resident of Madison county. He was the youngest son of William and Margaret Salmon Scott, and was born near Truro Sept. 9, 1870. He entire life was spent in that community, where he became an influential citizen.

He was married Feb. 5, 1892, to Sylvia C. Bird of Winterset. They were the parents of one son. The wife died Nov. 27, 1945.

He is survived by the son, Leon W. Scott of Boone, and a sister, Mrs. Elma Hiatt of Ackworth.

Funeral services were held from the Kale Funeral home Jan. 2 -, in charge of the Rev. Verne Willey. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery.

Sampson Davis Scott

Sampson Davis Scott, youngest son of Wm. P. and Margaret Salmon Scott, was born in Madison county, Iowa, September 9, 1870.

On February 5, 1893 he was united in marriage to Sylvia Clyde Bird, at Winterset, Iowa. To this union one son was born, Leon Wendell. The entire life of Mr. Scott was lived around this community, having resided in Truro for the past 40 years.

On January 2 he went to Boone, Iowa to visit in the home of his son, where he passed away suddenly at 4:45 a. m. Saturday, January 18, 1947, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 9 days. His wife passed away November 27, 1945.

Besides his wife, the father, mother, four sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by one son, Leon Wendell of Boone, Ia., a sister, Mrs. Eliza Hiatt of Ackworth, several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The two nephews, Wm. and Frank Scott of Truro, have been a great comfort and help to him in his declining years, especially since the death of his wife. In the death of Mrs. Scott the community lost one of its most promising citizens, and Mr. Scott too will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors.
