MRS. FLOYD PALMER DIED TUESDAY OF EXPLOSION BURNS

Death Occurs Week After Kitchen Cook Stove Explodes

Mrs. Floyd Palmer of near Earlham died at Memorial hospital in Winterset this Tuesday, Oct. 6, just one week after she was fatally burned in a kitchen stove explosion at her farm home. Her husband had died last Wednesday of burns received in the same blast.

Mr. and Mrs. Palmer were using kerosene to start a fire in the kitchen stove in their home east of Earlham on Tuesday morning of last week when an explosion enveloped them in flames, burning off their clothing. Mr. Palmer, although fatally burned, managed to drive his car to the home of a neighbor who brought him to the hospital in Winterset, and another neighbor brought in Mrs. Palmer.

Mr. Palmer died the next day, while Mrs. Palmer lingered for one week.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Palmer are long-time residents of Madison county. He has engaged in farming here during his lifetime. Mr. Palmer was 65 years of age, and Mrs. Palmer was 60 years old.

Nearest surviving relative of Mr. Palmer is his mother, Mrs. Nettie Palmer of Winterset, and his daughter by a previous marriage, Mrs. Lucille Martin of Pueblo, Colo. Mrs. Palmer leaves three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mr. Palmer were held last Sunday from the Fisher Funeral home in Van Meter, with burial at Fairview cemetery north of Winterset.
