CLAUDE MILLS OF WINTERSET DIES

Retired Business Man Had Been in Failing Health Several Years

Claude O. Mills, a well-known Winterset business man for many years, died this Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset, after an extended period of failing health. He was 68 years of age.

Mr. Mills was a member of a prominent Winterset family, and spent most of his life in this community. He was born here April 14, 1891, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mills. He engaged in the grocery business here for many years, serving as manager of the United Food Market during much of that time. A number of years ago he retired to a farm north of town. A few weeks ago they returned to their home on East Green.

He was married on June 30, 1912 to Julia Johnson, who survives him. With the exception of four years at Stuart, their married life was spent in or near Winterset.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Eastern Star here.

In addition to his wife; he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Beldon of Dexter; a son, John Mills of Chicago; four grandchildren; and a sister, Flossie Welch of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 3 p.m. from the Richards Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Porath pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
