George Horace Garrett, son of Walter B. and Matilda Ann Fishback Garrett, was born in Fayette county, Ohio, May 8, 1863. When a small child he came to Iowa with his parents and grew to manhood on a farm in Madison county. A part of his young life was spent in Minneapolis.
On February 10, 1889, he was united in marriage with Emma Ellis. To this union were born four children, Herbert, Helen, Elden and Clyde. After his marriage he continued to live in Winterset and was in business here for 33 years. He went to Creston in 1922, where he operated a music store until the time of his sickness and death. After a year’s illness, during which time he was a kind and patient sufferer, he passed away April 28th, 1930, at the age of 63 years and 11 months. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Winterset for a number of years.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and four children, Herbert and Mrs. R. G. Ross, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Elden and Clyde, of Creston; four brothers, T. E., of Winterset; D. H., of Minneapolis; R. E., of Lorimor, and H. L., of Boone; two sisters, Mrs. F. J. Moorman, of Versailes, Illinois, of Mrs. Clara Berghardt, of Great Falls, (unreadable) brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at Deltrick’s funeral home at Creston, conducted by Rev. Guy Fansher, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Creston. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Word was received here Tuesday of the death of George Garrett, of Creston. Mr. Garrett had been in ill health for some time. It was thought that his condition showed some improvement, but he became worse and death came Monday evening.
The funeral services will be held at a funeral home in Creston, Thursday, at one o’clock. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery at 3:30 o’clock. There will be short services at the grave.
Mr. Garrett was a brother of Tom Garrett of this city. For many years he owned and operated he Garrett Music store in Winterset.
