Mrs. W. W. Gentry, who had been a resident of this county since in 1860, died at her home on North First street, Tuesday evening, February 11th. Mrs. Gentry had a stroke of paralysis twelve years ago last December, and she had been an invalid since that time. Her condition became critical last Sunday, when heart and bladder trouble developed.
Mrs. Gentry was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Atchison. She was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, May 5, 1844. She came to this county with her parents, in a covered wagon. Her father was a shoemaker and later they moved on a farm. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Gentry took place June 23, 1864, and they lived for many years on the Gentry farm, three miles east of Winterset.
On March 4, 1913, the Gentrys moved to Winterset, and have since lived on their lots, on North First street. Ten years ago, they built the new home, in which they have since resided.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by her husband and eight children: Mrs. Margaret Farris, of Atwood, Colorado; John, of Valley Junction; Byron, of this county; Mrs. Belle Palmer, of Ottawa, Illinois; William F., of Norwalk; Miss Sylvia, who is in the home, Mrs. Minnie Stickler of Altoona, and Mac, of Winterset. Two children have preceded the mother in death: Sarah, who died when 17 years of age, and Alexander, who died when nine years of age.
The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, February 14th, at the Church of Christ, at 2 o’clock, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery. Rev. F. C. McCallon, of Osceola and Rev. H. L. Olmstead will have charge of the services.

Eleanor Jane Atchison, daughter of John and Jane Atchison, was born at Zanesville, Ohio, May 5, 1844, and passed away February 11, 1930, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 6 days.
At the age of nine, she moved overland with her parents to Albia, Iowa, remaining one year.
They returned to Ohio, living there until she reached the age of sixteen, and again moved to Iowa, settling in Madison county, on a farm on North river. She was married June 23, 1844, to W. W. Gentry, at Winterset. To them were born ten children, five boys and five girls.
They lived on rented farms until their financial circumstances permitted them to purchase a home in Union township, on which they lived 44 years. In the spring of 1913, on account of her failing health, they moved to Winterset, where they have since resided.
In December, 1917, she suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which time she had been a helpless invalid. She had been a great sufferer and required constant care. She was kindly cared for by her faithful companion and daughter, Sylvia. She was not only energetic, but also efficient, and planned her work to the best advantage, and her labors have been rewarded. She was of highly Christian character and her greatest interest was her home and family. One of her many pleasures was helping others and her kind disposition won her many friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Winterset. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She leaves her aged husband, eight children: Mrs. H. E. Farris, Atwood, Colorado; John Gentry, Valley Junction; Byron Gentry, St. Charles; Mrs. Dana M. Palmer, Ottawa, Illinois; W. F. Gentry, Norwalk; Sylvia, at home: Mrs. A. P. Stickler, Altoona, and Mac Gentry, of Winterset, who were at her bedside. There are nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death. She is also survived by one niece, Mrs. M. D. Wolfe, of Valley Junction, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gentry were held Friday afternoon, February 14th, at the Church of Christ, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
