Delbert Lloyd Clark, son of Joel and Sylvia Clark, was born in Winterset, June 23, 1883, and died April 8, 1930, at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 3 days.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Chapman on March 1, 1904. To this union four children were born, Aditha, who died in infancy, Grace, Gladys and Beulah. The mother of these children preceded him into the hereafter.
On December 28, 1920, he was united in marriage to Jessie Jackson. To this union three children were born, Carl, Merl, who died at the age of seven months, and Harold.
Those who mourn his early departure are his wife, Mrs. Jessie Jackson Clark, five children, Grace, Gladys, Beulah, Carl and Harold; two sisters, Mrs. Glenn Elderkin and Mrs. Will Johnson.
Delbert’s home had been in this community through these 46 years. At the age of fifteen he united with the Church of Christ, and had been a liberal supporter, a loved and honored member. His Christian council will be missed in many a group.
He was a lover of nature. He found much to cheer and encourage him in God’s great out-of-doors. The strength of the hills, the stability of the rocks, the purity of the spring wove themselves into his character. He was a manly man. He was a just and honest employer, a true friend, a loyal citizen, an affectionate father and a loving husband.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 10, at 2:30 o’clock, at the Church of Christ, by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, assisted by Rev. R. F. Bresee, of Ottumwa. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
