Rest for the Weary

A rest remaineth after the worry and struggles of this life are over. Noble is the setting sun of him whose years have been many and whose example is worthy of imitation.

On the 10th inst., at the advanced age of 83 years, 5 months and 6 days, William Bard, of Douglas, passed from the cares of this life to his home in the great hereafter.

He was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, May 4th, 1792. May 26th, 1812, he was married to Elizabeth Cridler, who was born Nov. 19th, 1791, in Shenandoah county, Virginia. In 1817 he moved to Ohio, and in the spring of 1863 to this county, making his home with his son, William H. Bard, one of our oldest and most respected citizens.

The deceased was the father of 14 children, 10 of whom lived to raise families. He had at the time of his death 44 grand-children living, 42 great-grand-children, and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral services were held at West Star Chapel last Sabbath. They were conducted by Rev. F. R. Morey, of Adair county. The funeral text was from 2d Kings, 20th chapter, 1st verse: “Set thine house in order; thou shalt die and not live.”
