Page 1Death Mrs. H. C. Milligan
Mrs. H. C. Milligan, who had been in poor health for some time, passed away at the Winterset hospital, Monday night, November 3rd, at the age of 71 years. Only last Friday, October 31st, Mr. and Mrs. Milligan observed their golden wedding anniversary, and all of their children and grandchildren, and many other relatives were here for the dinner, which was held at the Church of Christ, and for the reception, following at the Milligan home. Mrs. Milligan was able to partake of the festivities. She went to the hospital the next day for treatment, but her condition was not considered serious. A heart attack caused her death, however, late Monday night.
The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hoddy, and was born in Ottumwa 71 years ago. She was married to Harry C. Milligan, October 31, 1880, and they were the parents of four sons, who with the father survive her, Karl H., of Kansas City; Bert and Don, of Chicago, and Merle O., of Des Moines. The Milligans resided for many years in Mt. Ayr, coming here four years ago, and since that time he has owned and operated a jewelry store on the south side of the square.
Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted the funeral services at the Milligan home on West Jefferson street, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. The members of the Eastern Star lodge assisted with the services at the grave.
The pall bearers were: Dr. R. S. Cooper, Ray Hall, P. G. Rollstin, Dr. H. G. Breakenridge, Charles Christensen and Ralph Thompson.

Eva M. Hoddy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hoddy, was born in Ottumwa, February 11, 1859, and died in Winterset, November 3, 1930, aged 71 years, 8 months and 22 days. On October 31, 1880, she was united in marriage to Harry C. Milligan. To this union 4 sons were born: Karl H., of Kansas City, Missouri; Bert H., of Chicago, Illinois; Merle O., of Des Moines, and Don E., of Chicago.
Mrs. Milligan had been in failing health for a number of years. During these years she had been confined to her home most of the time. It was a great effort for her to get out unless assisted.
On October 31st, the family celebrated the golden wedding anniversary. This was an enjoyable occasion. Few, if any, thought that within three days the spirit of mother and wife would slip away to the land of rest.
Those who mourn her going are a husband, Harry C. Milligan; four sons, Karl H., Bert H., Merle O., and Don E., and some grandchildren.
