Death Mrs. Jane Beerbower

Mrs. Jane Beerbower, a pioneer settler of Winterset, died at the Soldier’s hospital, in Marshalltown, Monday, March 31st, at the age of 95 years. Mrs. Beerbower had been in poor health for a number of years. Several years ago she was taken to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, for treatment, and last May she went to the Soldier’s Home, in Marshalltown.

Nancy Jane Beerbower was a daughter of Simon and Susan Hoggins, and was born in Marion, Ohio, May 21, 1834. Her girlhood was spent in Ohio, where she was married to Samuel Beerbower. They came to Winterset in the early days, and Mr. Beerbower engaged in the grocery business as a partner in the firm of Duer & Beerbower.

The Beerbowers were the parents of three children: Casper, who lived for many years in Florida, and died there a number of years ago; a daughter, Olive, who died when a young woman, and a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Bare, now living in China. She also leaves a grandson, Robert Bare, and a great granddaughter, Nancy Bare.

Mrs. Beerbower became a member of the Methodist church of Winterset when she was a young woman, and was their oldest member in years, and one of the oldest in point of service.

Rev. A. P. Keast, pastor of the local church, conducted the funeral services at Tidrick’s funeral home Wednesday morning, April 2, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Bare, who was Mrs. Beerbower’s only surviving daughter, is teaching in a college in China, and was unable to be here. She made, however, the arrangements of the funeral, and her plans were carried out. Mrs. Pearl Newerf and Mrs. T. A. Garretson sang a duet, and they were accompanied by Mrs. Bess Baird.
